Halloween in North Norfolk This Half-term
Halloween season is upon us! The shops are filled with scary costumes, masses of sweeties, and some rather creepy decorations, so it’s about time we got on board and started sharing the Halloween funtimes with our guests when visiting North Norfolk this half-term!
Now that summer has been and gone, we’re ready for some Halloween festivities and there’s plenty to do not far from our holiday park. We’ve done a little digging and unearthed a few spooky ideas for what to do while visiting North Norfolk with kids.
PYO Pumpkin Picking in Alby
In anticipation of the big Halloween trick-or-treat night itself, why not do some pumpkin picking just a few minutes away in Alby.
The Alby Pumpkin Patch is literally, just down the road from us. The pumpkin patch will be open on weekends from Saturday the 12th of October and then during the half-term holidays until the 31st. This is a traditional pick-your-own style venue with thousands of pumpkins ripe for the picking. It’s free to enter with food available on-site and completely dog friendly. The site is cash only, so don’t forget to visit the local hole-in-the-wall before arrival. Pop the address for Alby Crafts & Gardens into the sat nav and follow the signs to the parking for the PYO pumpkin field.
Pensthorpe Pumpkin Festival
This one is a little further to travel but if you’re nature lovers like us, it’s a beautiful place to visitany time of year, but especially during autumn as nature's colours are changing. This half-term they’ve included the Pumpkin Festival, a pick-your-own pumpkin field as part of the fun.
Pensthorpe is a nature reserve where you can explore magical gardens, take a trail through the reserve, and get up close with birds and creepy crawlies. Scale towers, swing from zip lines, at WildRootz and climb rope bridges, and slide down snaking slides in the indoor play area in the Hootz House.
Visit the pumpkin patch where visitors can choose from thousands of pumpkins to collect and carve. You receive one FREE Pumpkin to pick and carve with a full-paying children’s ticket. The event starts on the 25th of October through until the 3rd of November. Pensthorpe is open daily 10am – 5pm with the patch open between 10am – 4pm.
There are many great things to do in Norfolk over the half-term though. Here are some more special Halloween calendar events for inspiration.
Witchy Wonders & Twig or Treat at BeWILDerwood
We love BeWILDerwood! It’s an amazing mix of magical storytelling and adventurous treehouse mazes. Based on the Tom Blofeld books, BeWILDerwood is a magical world of adventurous creatures. Visitors can follow in the footsteps of the characters who live in the Boggle Village and Twiggle houses throughout the year, however, during peak times of the year the woodland play area is transformed by night and day.
This Halloween, by day enjoy Witchy Wonders visiting the new Witch's Hat addition to the park including tricky tunnels and climbing the Cloud Wall. Meet favourite Halloween characters at the Storytelling Stage, play a magical version of Top Trumps, and we're sure there will also be the usual witch-crafty area to make and play. By night enjoy the Twig or Treat fun at The Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade on selected evenings in October and November. See the woods as they glow with magical light effects and watch a 10-minute Halloween show Twig or Treat Tales at the Storytelling Stage.
HallowSTEAM with North Norfolk Railway
The North Norfolk Railway Poppyline is famous around these parts! Running through the stunning coastal scenery of North Norfolk, customers have the chance to travel back in time on the steam trains between the seaside town of Sheringham and the historical Georgian town of Holt, stopping at a range of stations on the way.
The North Norfolk Railway’s special event takes place from the 30th of October through to the 2nd of November. Ticket holders will join the Mad Science Scientists at North Norfolk Railway for some S.T.E.A.M fun aboard the historic steam train either traveling from Sheringham or Holt stations to Weybourne station to enjoy 'HallowSTEAM!', an event for children to celebrate all things science through interactive shows and experiments.
North Norfolk Stately Homes
North Norfolk has several stately homes and private estates to visit. Closest to us are Blickling Hall Estate and Felbrigg Hall Estate.
Autumn Magic & Folklore
At Blickling, you’ll discover autumnal spaces with the Autumn Magic & Folklore event. See the newly restored Corbridge map on display in the Lower Ante. Walk through the main house and look out for the hidden pumpkins and discover the legend of Sir Henry Hobart and Blickling’s Black Shuck. For the folklore of trees in the parkland follow the purple arrows from the park gates to discover some of the magical properties of trees on the estate. A short looped walk that takes in the goose-foot area nearest the gardens and lake.
Family Fungi Foray
At Felbrigg Hall, join in with the Family Fungi Foray. Explore the fabulous world of fungi through a guided walk around the estate. Great for adults and children. Includes fungus craft activities too. This is a one-day event taking place on the 29th of October at 10.30-12.30. You’ll need to pre-book if you fancy.
